FUD Flows Both Ways at Mozilla Corporation

Posted on May 6, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, Whatever |

Whenever a report is released that says something positive about Microsoft the open source world rises up in anger and announces it is FUD – Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt – or even just plain lies.
It is inconceivable to them that one of the largest software companies in the world could get something right, even though [...]

Should Microsoft, Apple and Linux abandon the desktop operating system market?

Posted on May 5, 2007. Filed under: Whatever, You vs Them |

I have to wonder these days – does it really matter anymore who’s operating system is running on your desktop?
The only real difference really between the various flavours of Windows, Mac OS and Linux distributions, is the software that’ll run on them.  There may or may not be performance differences, minor feature differences and security [...]

Steve Jobs, you suck.

Posted on May 5, 2007. Filed under: Whatever |

There are two constants in the tech industry:

Microsoft, and especially Bill Gates, are evil
Apple, and especially Steve Jobs, are good

Jobs is an impressive character.  He’s repeatedly proven he has an excellent understanding of consumers, and he’s taking Apple further than it’s ever been before and in exciting new directions.
Not only that, at a time when [...]

SEO Mischief: Part 1 – The Plan, Stan

Posted on May 4, 2007. Filed under: SEO Mischief |

SEO is short for search engine optimisation.  The whole industry is generally a scam that involves seperating idiots with their money in exchange for implementing a handful of tricks.
There’s two flavours of SEO – blackhat and whitehat.  These delicious terms are what various experts use to describe themselves and each other.  “Whitehat” SEO is when [...]

Patently Stupid

Posted on May 4, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, You vs Them |

Fortunately being retarded isn’t patented, so anyone is free to do it.
This is quite evident in the software and technology industry, where patents are the same sort of currency white men are in prison.
But the process of patenting is so heavily flawed that an invention can range from say, clicking a button, to Apple’s latest effort [...]

Things I hate about social bookmarking / news aggregation / whatever

Posted on May 3, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, Social Tomfoolery, Web 2.0 |

Social bookmarking is a fancy new word to describe “a forum”.  People post and discuss stuff.  Screw Web 2.0, that’s Web 30.718 at least.
There are several leading social bookmarking sites and they all suffer from a range of crippling inabilities.
Everyone’s an Editor, Nobody’s an Editor, Some Chumps are Editors
Editorial processes just don’t work. Whether it’s [...]

Vista is giving me the shits, thanks Adobe

Posted on May 3, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, Programming, Web Based Blunders |

But not for any of the “usual” reasons.  For some reason Adobe have retardulated Opera and Internet Explorer, so when I try to watch South Park episodes over at www.allsp.com it takes a few goes because the Flash Player plugin is screwing up.
I don’t blame Vista.  Lots of people dislike it because it’s made by Microsoft, [...]

Remove foot from digg’s balls, proceed with step

Posted on May 2, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, Pirates and Piracy, Social Tomfoolery, Web 2.0, Web Based Blunders |

Digg seems to have offended the oh-so-fickle MySpace generation with their censorship of the HD-DVD serial crack whatever.
The site has been literally flooded with various uses of the hexadecimal code that can unlock HD-DVD.  You know what else can unlock HD-DVD?  Buying the fucking disc.
Guess what?  It’s not censorship and Kevin Rose doesn’t owe you [...]

The Web Is Full Of Geniuses Sharing Their Genius

Posted on May 1, 2007. Filed under: Lolograms, Programming, Web Based Blunders |

There’s a natural progression many people follow when they get on the internet.

First develop an interest in learning how to do more with your computer.
Through the help of Google and tutorials written by idiots, aquire basic skills.
Spread your “knowledge” via blogging, forums or articles so that others can learn stupid ways to do things too.

This inbred [...]
